Car history: |
1978 Chevrolet Corvette 25th Anniversary Pace Car with L82 Motor Option. Owned, carefully driven and meticulously maintained in the temperate climate of Arizona since 2004. This Pace Car has been without modification or changes to any major components. The overall condition of this car is without serious flaw and all attempts have been made to document any minor concerns the average collector would note. This is a private party sale. Good luck and happy motoring!
Exterior Paint and Body: The paint is largely original with the lower Silver portion of the car professionally repainted as this color on the two-tone Corvettes is notorious for cracking and fading. As should be expected on a fiberglass car of this age, there exist minor splinters and these have been documented in the images included. There are no indications of significant or minor fiberglass reconstruction. The body is straight and all wedges, shims and mounts appear to be in original locations and configurations as they would be straight from the factory.
Glass: All glass is free of any cracks and seals and trim is in good condition. NOTE: The passenger side window has a small chip from coming in contact with the window seat guide located on the upper A-pillar. This guidance problem has been corrected. It is not visible in the either the completely up or down position. There is no tint-film on this car as it would not have come from the factory this way.
This car is a T-Top and has mirror-tinted glass panels both in good condition. The associated mounting hardware, handles and clips are all in operable and good condition for a car of this mileage.
Chassis: The chassis appears straight and shows no signs of damage or repair resulting from collision.
Brakes: The brakes on this Vette have been replaced with all new components that are OEM specific with the EXCEPTION of the rotors and stainless-steel braided brake lines. Please see the images taken. The new components include all calipers, all rotors and all flexible brake lines from the frame to the calipers. However, the 1978 Corvette DID NOT come with slotted rotors nor braided brake lines. Since the car was not intended to sit in a garage unused, I chose to install higher heat-displacing rotors and replaced the aged rubber brake lines with stainless. The rotors and brake lines are easily accessible and can be replaced with OEM parts relatively easily. In addition to the brakes, the master cylinder was replaced with an OEM replacement as you will notice in images of the engine bay. This car stops hard and straight.
Electrical: All electrical components on this Vette operate without error. Cruise control is operational. All gauges, even the clock, operate as they should including the in-cabin lighting. All driving lights, i.e. brake, turn, parking and low w/ high beam operate. The factory radio will come with the car to the winning bidder but has been replaced with an updated radio. The electrical components of the car are powered by a newly installed alternator that is also a correct OEM replacement.
Interior: The seating surfaces are free of tears and significant scrapes and the carpeting is well kept but shows expected use due to the lighter color. The door panels, pull handles, map pockets and lock pulls are all in good condition. The center console is without major flaws. The plastics covering the T-Top framing, A-pillars, dash and rear storage are all in good condition and are surprisingly free of warping or cracking; a tribute to how well the car was taken care of.
Climate Control: All settings for the climate control work properly. The A/C compressor has also been recently replaced. The blower motor in all speeds, flow direction (heat to floor and cool to torso) and selection levers operate properly.
Motor: The motor retains is entire stock make up right down to the smog pump. This Vette has passed its Arizona emissions requirements every time. And careful attention has been paid to proper OEM replacement parts in any underhood work.
Drivetrain: Like the motor, no modifications have been performed to the driveline of this car. Only maintenance work has been performed. The car tracks straight and no unusual noises are apparent under load or coasting. The wheels are in their original, unrestored condition. This means they are showing the slight hazing effect as a result of the protective clear coating on the aluminum begining to deteriorate. While this is by no means unsightly, they do not show the high gloss shine as just coming off the lot.
Documentation: All documentation collected at the time of last purchase and during ownership will be provided. This includes inspections, parts and service receipts other documents collected during ownership. The the Owners Manual will be included.
Accessories: Included in this auction are the additional accessories that came with this car at the time of purchase from the last owner. These include the optional CB radio and the original factory-installed radio.
Overall: The last professional inspection on the car in spring of 2004 listed it as: Original in Good Condition and placed a condition rating as #3+.
